Recently, I purchased reliance netconnect broadband + till now I am quite happy with the download speed and transfer rate it offers, Reliance claims that the technology they had used with reliance netconnect broadband + enables them to offer 30 per cent higher downlink rate in comparison to any other wireless internet technology available in the country.

The reliance netconnect broadband + device would cost you around 3500 Indian rupees which is non refundable and still you will have to subscribe to data plan to use it which are limited in terms of the usage – the maximum usage with the unlimited plans offers is 10 gb of fair usage.

Now Some Problems I had Faced Using reliance netconnect broadband +

It does not connect automatically to internet you will need to launch the associated program connect to internet manually – Till now I have no solution for this problem but I am coming out with a solution to this problem

As reliance netconnect broadband + is dial up based so it will dial and connect you but if the connection remains inactive because of no application connecting to internet – it will disconnect automatically and will not even display a message that it has been disconnected – this is something I call bad software designing and poorly tested application.

Tweak to keep reliance netconnect broadband + connection active and stop disconnection

The disconnection is based on the fact if any of the application is not trying to connect to internet for some time it will disconnect, so I made a small desktop shortcut which keeps pinging the google server all the time, so once you are connected just double click the shortcut. This small shortcut will call the default ping command on your windows machine and will give an indication to reliance netconnect broadband + software that it is trying to connect to google server by sending some small data packets and reliance netconnect broadband + will not disconnect.

Note: You can minimize this command prompt of pinging google all the time, so that you does not occupy any space

Here is how you can create a desktop shortcut, right click on the empty area and select new >> desktop create shortcut

type the following in the target box – ping www.google.com –t and click ok

Now when ever you connect to internet you just need too double click the shortcut to keep the connection active.

Another Easy Method To Solve The reliance netconnect broadband + Disconnect Problem

For Vista

1. Open Start Menu >> Control Panel

2. Open Network and Sharing Center

3. In the Left pane you can see the link Manage Network Connections, click it.

4. In the newly opened windows you can see all the network connections including reliance dial up connection

5. Right click on the dial up connection and select properties, click the options tab in the newly opened windows interface of the dial up

Set your reliance dial up connection properties as shown above, click Ok and close all windows – now it will automatically connect when disconnected if the line is dropped

For XP

1. Open Start Menu >> Control Panel

GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Mail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.

GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.

Ever since Google started to offer users a Gmail e-mail account, which includes storage space of 6000 megabytes, you have had plenty of storage space but not a lot to fill it up with. With GMail Drive you can easily copy files to your Google Mail Account and retrieve them again.
When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an e-mail and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. GMail Drive periodically checks your mail account (using the Gmail search function) to see if new files have arrived and to rebuild the directory structures. But basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed on your computer.
You can copy files to and from the GMail Drive folder simply by using drag'n'drop like you're used to with the normal Explorer folders.

Because the Gmail files will clutter up your Inbox folder, you may wish to create a filter in Gmail to automatically move the files (prefixed with the GMAILFS letters in the subject) to your archived mail folder.

Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool. There's still a number of limitations of the file-system (such as total filename size must be less than 65 characters). Since the tool hooks up with the free Gmail Service provided by Google, changes in the Gmail system may break the tool's ability to function. I cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future.
16 March 2007 update: A change in the Gmail.com login cause an empty filelist. Download the latest version to access files again. Version 1.0.11 also includes a lot of Windows Vista fixes.
8 Nov 2007 update: Google is preparing for Gmail 2.0 and restructured their login. They will allow 3rd party tools to access an interim version for some time, but be prepared that GMail Drive may need to be updated again soon. Version 1.0.12 fixes the login, and now works with Google Apps accounts (hosted domains) too.
9 Jul 2008 update: A new version was released since some users complained that they had problems with login; please install the latest version 1.0.13 and reboot Windows.

The date of the official release of Windows 7 has been confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson. “I can finally confirm Windows 7 timing,” said the spokesperson.

A program called Windows Upgrade Option will also be launced for those users who want to upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista.

Today i am going to share a cool windows trick with all the readers of Technix Update about how can you run your favorite programs directly typing it from run prompt.

Let us assume that your favorite program is firefox as it is in my case we want to run firefox directly from run prompt and when i type “fire” in run prompt firefox get started automatically..

So how are you going to do it.You need to follow some very simple steps…..listed below: -

1.Make a shortcut of your favorite applications or songs which you want to run.

2.Now Rename these shortcuts with small names so that they become easy to remember like “fire” for the firefox.(Optional Step)
3.Now copy these shortcuts in the folder called system32(which contains some .exe and large no of other files to provide support for various commands like msconfig,cmd etc.) in your operating system drive which is by default is “c drive”.

Note: so the path to the folder would be if it is a “c drive” :- c:\windows\system32 or You can directly open this folder by typing “system32″ without double quotes in run prompt else replace the drive letter in the above path.

4.Now close all windows and open run prompt by pressing window+r or by selecting it from all programs and type the respective shortcut name for your program n see the magic.

There is very simple registry trick behind removing the arrow from the shortcuts in windows vista.

By following the procedure below you will be able to hide or remove the arrow displayed with the shortcuts in windows vista.

Step By Step Procedure :

1. Type “regedit.exe” in the search box without double quotes.
2. Browse to key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
3. Open the Key LNKFILE
4. Rename the value assigned with this key “IsShortcut” something other than.
5. Log out and back in again.
6. You will notice the change.

If you want a private chat with a friend or client on you Network, you don't need to download any fancy program!
All you need is your friends IP address and Command Prompt.
Firstly, open Notepad and enter:

Create Folders And Files With NO! Name

This trick will allow you to create files and folders without any name.

Just follow the following steps:
1.Select any file or folder.
2.Right click on it, press rename or simply press F2.
3.Press and hold the alt key. While holding the Alt key, type numbers 0160 from the numpad.

Note: Type the numbers 0160 from the numpad, that is, the numbers present on the right side of the keyboard. Don’t type the numbers which are present on top of the character keys.

4.Press Enter and the nameless file or folder will be created.

Reason: The file or folder that seems nameless is actually named with a single space.

But what if you want to create another nameless file or folder in the same directory ?

For this you will have to rename the file with 2 spaces. Just follow these steps below:

1.Select file, press F2.
2.Hold alt key and type 0160 from the numpad.
3.Release the alt key. Now without doing anything else, again hold alt key and press 0160.
4.Press enter and you will have second nameless file in the same directory.
5.Repeat step 3 to create as many nameless files or folders in the same directory.

(we’ve had a problem with deleting these folders, to do so, start your computer in safe mode and delete it from there.)

2 Ways Abort Shutdown / Restart and Disable Remote Shutdown On Your Computer

It may happen sometimes when you are working on your computer and you suddenly see a message saying that this computer is getting shutdown with in the next 60 seconds and then if you dont know how to abort the shutdown you will loose all your unsaved data after 60 seconds

This may also happen to you when you are working on the computer connected to your LAN network and some one just to annoy you try to shutdown the computer you are working on.(as shown in the above image)

So, In this article we will discuss all the methods and tools with which you can abort shutdown initiated by some else or any application on windows, this way you can prevent what ever closing of all the programs and loosing of data which you have not saved.

There are simple ways through which you can simply abort a shutdown with minimum effort required at your end.

The first method to abort or stop initiated shutdown of your computer is by typing a command at the run prompt and press Ok. We recommend you can also create a desktop shortcut for the same so you dont have to type the command to abort shutdown again and again if this unexpected shutdown notification happens very frequently.

Here it goes.

First Method: Abort Shutdown Command Shortcut

When you see the shutdown notification screen with some message, quickly open Start Menu >> Run prompt and type

and press Ok, thats it done.

You can optionally create a desktop shortcut for the same, here is how to do it.

1. Right click on the empty area of the desktop and select New >> Desktop (create shortcut)

BIOS -WHAT IS THIS EXACTLY?

(bī´ōs) Acronym for basic input/output system, the built-in software that determines what a computer can do without accessing programs from a disk. On PCs, the BIOS contains all the code required to control the keyboard, display screen, disk drives, serial communications, and a number of miscellaneous functions.

The BIOS is typically placed in a ROM chip that comes with the computer (it is often called a ROM BIOS). This ensures that the BIOS will always be available and will not be damaged by disk failures. It also makes it possible for a computer to boot itself. Because RAM is faster than ROM, though, many computer manufacturers design systems so that the BIOS is copied from ROM to RAM each time the computer is booted. This is known as shadowing.

Many modern PCs have a flash BIOS, which means that the BIOS has been recorded on a flash memory chip, which can be updated if necessary.

The PC BIOS is fairly standardized, so all PCs are similar at this level (although there are different BIOS versions). Additional DOS functions are usually added through software modules. This means you can upgrade to a newer version of DOS without changing the BIOS.

PC BIOSes that can handle Plug-and-Play (PnP) devices are known as PnP BIOSes, or PnP-aware BIOSes. These BIOSes are always implemented with flash memory rather than ROM.

Install Windows from a USB drive

Step 1: Download the software ‘Komku-SP-usb.exe’ from the websites mentioned earlier and execute it. The executable file will extract the necessary utilities to a folder called ‘C:komku’.

Step 2: Once the package has been extracted, go to the folder ‘C:komkuPeToUSB’ using Windows Explorer. Execute the file ‘PeToUSB.exe’. Plug in the USB flash drive and make sure you choose the following (see image below) before clicking the start button. Select ‘USB removable’, ‘Enable Disk Format’, ‘Quick format’, ‘Enable LBA (Fat 16x)’ and finally give the drive a name under ‘Drive Label’. Once it’s done, click start to let the utility format the drive.

Step 3: Next you will need to start the command prompt. Click ‘Start | Run’, type ‘cmd’ and press [Enter]. Then go to the ‘bootsect’ directory by typing the command ‘cd C:komkubootsect’ and pressing [Enter]. Now type the command ‘bootsect /nt52 F:’ and press [Enter]. (The ‘F:’ is the USB flash drive letter represented in ‘My Computer’. Check to verify the drive letter used by your USB flash drive). Let the utility do the needful. Do not exit the Command Prompt yet.

Step 4: Now you will need to change to the directory ‘Usb_Prep8’ by using the command ‘cd C:komkuusb_prep8’ and pressing [Enter]. Here execute the command ‘usb_prep8’ and press [Enter]. Press any key to continue and you will see a welcome screen with a menu appear in the Command Prompt.

Step 5: Now at this stage, you will have to insert the Windows XP installation disk into your optical drive. At the Command Prompt menu, type ‘1’ and press [Enter]. A new popup will appear asking you to choose the location (path) of the Windows installation disk. Select the optical drive and click ‘OK’. Next choose ‘2’ from the menu and change the drive letter to any drive letter which has not been taken. It is drive ‘T:’ by default and you can ignore this step unless you do have a ‘T:’ drive on your computer.

After this, choose ‘3’ from the menu and enter the drive letter of your USB flash drive (in this case it would be ‘F’). Finally choose ‘4’ from the menu and press [Enter]. Wait for a few seconds for the process to complete and you will see a prompt to allow the utility to format the USB flash drive. Type ‘Y’ and then press [Enter] at this stage to let the utility proceed and install the necessary files from the Windows XP installation disk to the USB flash drive. This process will take a few minutes and depends on the speed of the flash drive.

Step 6: After the files are copied, you will see a popup window asking you for permission to copy files from the temp drive to the USB flash drive. Select ‘Yes’.

Step 7: Next there will be another popup window asking you to allow the utility to change the boot drive letter of the USB flash drive from ‘F:’ to ‘U:’. Select ‘Yes’.

Step 8: Finally, after all the processes are complete, you will see yet another popup window asking if you want to unmount the virtual drive. Select ‘Yes’. Exit the Command Prompt now and you will see that your flash drive is ready to install Windows XP to another computer.

To install Windows XP to the computer, you will have to go to the BIOS and enable the option of booting from a USB removable device. This option is usually found under the boot sequence menu of the BIOS. Plug in the USB drive to the computer before you turn it on. Now your computer will boot from the USB flash drive and will be ready to install Windows XP. Follow the necessary steps to install Windows XP and your computer will be up, raring and ready to go and running Windows in no time.
